Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
• 8 slices cheddar cheese
• 150 g sliced ham- optional
• 8 slices baguette (french bread) or ordinary bread slices
• 2 eggs
• ½ cup milk
• Salt and freshly milled black pepper
• 30 g butter for frying
Method:
- Place 4 cheese slices together with the ham slices on 4 bread slices. Top with the remaining cheese and bread slices to make sandwiches.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk and salt and pepper. Carefully dip the sandwiches into the egg mixture and let them soak well.
- Heat the butter in a large frying pan over high heat. Cook the sandwiches in batches for 2 – 3 minutes on each side, or until golden and cheese is melted.
Notes: Leave out the ham and serve the cheesy french toast with preserves such as figs or oranges.
